A prison to some living things and a precious stone to others, amber is indeed a fossilized resin. While some consider it a gemstone, others think that it cannot be called a precious stone because it isn't of mineral provenience. However discussed this issue might be no argument can stop people from wearing amber jewelry. Part of the amber charm consists mainly in the fact that it immortalizes something inside it. It acts like a cryogenic pod, keeping the insects body in great shape because it doesn't allow the bodies to decay. Some pieces of amber jewelry have prehistoric organic matter captured in their resin adding mystery and charm to the wonderfully colored jewels.

Hi Anna, thanks for popping over! Check out my reply to Leslie, too, about using both beading wire and thread with the spinner.

Leslie, if you're using a bead spinner, how about cutting a 6" or so length of beading wire, gluing one end to the thread, and using the other as a "needle" to dip down into the spinner as it spins? That might replace the need for a needle altogether.

Hi Sharon, that stone sounds beautiful! It doesn't have any holes through it already, right? In that case, your best bet is to wire wrap it. I don't have any tutorials for wire wrapping stones up yet, so check out this tutorial at The Beading Gem: http://www.beadinggem.com/2009/10/how-to-wire-wrap-sea-glass-jewelry.html. Hope that helps!
